Welcome to Katanning Men’s Shed
The pavillion below was
a major project by members of the
Katanning Men’s Shed
for the Katanning Agricultural Society
Our shed members constructed this full size replica of a display built for F & C Piesse’s display at the 1905 Perth Royal Show. Working from a small black and white photograph, lead by shed foreman Geoff Flack, members constructed the unit with some assistance from Ray Ford Signs and Peter Squibb Carpentry, in time for the 2016 Katanning Agricultural Show.

Fast growing movement…
The Katanning Men’s Shed is a part of the Australian Men’s Shed movement which is growing rapidly in this country and they have now started in Ireland, England, Scotland, as well as Canada and the United States.
There are now 10443 shedders in 432 sheds in England with a further 116 sheds in development.
In Scotland the movement is also growing at a rapid pace with over 700 members in 61 sheds. There is also a further 28 sheds being developed.
As in Australia, men’s sheds are part of Canadian culture so the concept of community Men’s Sheds is a good fit.
Men’s Sheds provide a place for men who have retired, have mental health issues, or just wish to socialise with other men in a safe friendly environment. The smoke and alcohol free sheds are open to men of all ages, all cultures, and all nationalities.

Working with our Community…
Men of all ages often face life with a disability that restricts what they can do in their day to day life. Katanning Men’s Shed provides a safe place for these guys and allows them to learn, grow, and socialise with other men from the community.
These disabilities can include a mental illness, learning difficulties, or a physical disability… but all are welcome at the shed.
Shed member William was delighted to show his fellow shed members how he is progressing by showing off his latest creation!
beyondblue is an Australian, independent non-profit organisation working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety disorders and related mental disorders. It provides support and advice for anyone suffering from mental illness, to the families of those suffering, and to the broader community in general.

A New Home for Katanning Shedders:
Katanning Men’s Shed is currently located in temporary facilities in Daping Street next door to Premier Smash Repairs. Members are carrying out maintenance on the building for the owner in return for rent.
Negotiations are currently underway with the Katanning Shire and the Public Transport Authority to enable us to use the old Westrail Wool Consolidation Centre situated in the Katanning railway precinct. Members need to raise funds to connect power and water to the building… so if you are interested in contributing please contact us! Your donation will be gratefully appreciated.
